The ancient city Bosra, found some 150 kilometers south of Damascus, is a living evidence of successive civilizations of different times. Inclduing Islamic, Roman and Byzantine eras. There has been found references to this city as old as 14 centuries B.C. Bosra was an important stop-over for pilgrims on their way to Mecca until the 17th century.
Ibn Khatir wrote one of the most well known tafsir, commentary of the Qur'an. This medressa is found just next to the Mabrak an Naka Mosque
