Inclduing Islamic, Roman and Byzantine eras. There has been found references to this city as old as 14 centuries B.C. Busra was an important stop-over for pilgrims on their way to Mecca until the 17th century.

Ruins of the Nestorian Christian monk Bahiras church. The monk saw the Prophet (saws) with his uncle Abu Talib and spoke with him. Bahira said that Allah would send a message which will be a mercy to all beings through Mohammed (saws)." Abu Talib asked how he could know that. Bahira told him about the signs he had seen among them; the stones and trees prostrating themselves, which they never do except for a Prophet, the seal of Prophethood which is below his shoulder, a cloud folllowing him which gives him shadow, and also after speaking to Muhammed about different issues.

The minaret of the mosque of Omar is the oldest standing squre minaret. The mosque itself is also one of the oldest standing mosque. There are inscriptions on the wall dating back to 720 AD.

The al Mabrak Mosque contains what is believed to be the footprint of Muhammed (saws). It is said that his camel knelt at the spot of the Mihrab. This happend at a later journey to Busra than when he (saws) met the monk Bahira. The madrassa of Ibn Khatir is found just next to the mosque.
