Cruise

Masjid Hajjaj is litterally built on top of Luxor Temple. Some of the stones used to build the mosque is covered with hieroglyphics.

One of the best preserved temples in Egypt. The temple, dedicated to the falcon god Horus, was built in the Ptolemaic period between 237 and 57 BC.

Considered one of the "incomparable monuments of ancient Egypt."

It comprises a mix of decayed temples, chapels, pylons, and other buildings. Most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom.

The excavations were carried out sporadically until 1960. The whole temple was covered by earth, with a mosque on top of it. The mosque is still intact on top of the temple.

Used to be located on the Philae Island, but due to floods and the Aswan dam, the temple was dismantled and relocated to nearby Agilkia Island.

A burrial places for the major royal among of the Egyptian New Kingdom, together with those of a number of privileged nobles. Sadly - no more pictures were allowed, then the few shown here.
